Saturday 9th November, 2003

Well, the last two weeks really have taken us from the sublime to the ridiculous for Case Hardin gigs.

 It started so well…………

On Monday 27th, we played a headline slot at The Borderline in Soho. Our elevated status on the bill did come about by default as Andrew Bird, the rostered main act had to pull out through ill health. Still the show must go on, and it surely did. With over seventy of you coming out on a school night to watch us play. We had a great time and the feedback from all who turned out has been very positive.

On behalf of the boys, once again, thanks for your support, it is never taken for granted. Barry from the venue was also pleased and has promised a fairly ‘high profile’ support in the future…. For us that is, not you lot.

So, with our ears still ringing, Del & I set off to The Ship on Wednesday 29th. A wonderful oldie- worldly pub in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. It was in this beautiful setting that we played an acoustic show for nearly two hours, bolstering our own stuff with some great covers…. Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt, The Everly Brothers, Gin Blossoms, Sam Cooke & even an impromptu run through Gram Parsons ‘Return of the Grievous Angel’.

With ‘The Ship’ going down as being one the best nights we have had in a long time, the fun had to stop…. & it did, & how.

Friday night (31st) Del & I were booked to do a half hour acoustic show at ‘The White Horse’ in Hampstead, North London. It is a cool venue that I have played before & we were really looking forward to it.

We were due on stage at 8.00, but, owing to ‘The Journey From Hell’ getting there, we did not actually take the stage until 8.35, five minutes after we were due to finish.

No sooner did we sit down and start the first verse of ‘Gin Clear’, unsound checked, I broke a string. Having been told we must be off by 8.50 at the latest, there was clearly no time for repairs, so we soldiered on through ‘Film the Sky’ and ‘Paper the Cracks’ with my guitar dropping hopelessly out of tune every time I so much as looked at it.

A bad gig in every sense. Poor Del & Lucy. Three hour journey, three song gig.. it is not much of a return. To drown our sorrows we took the girls out for a curry & surrendered our selves to the healing powers of spicy food & ice cold Cobra.

Not the note we would have wanted to finish gigging on for a while, but that is the way it goes sometimes. I think that may well be it now until 11th December when our gig in support of ‘Horse Stories’ is now confirmed.

Andy will keep you up to date with all you need to know until then.

Ryan Adams two releases, ‘Rock n Roll’ & ‘Love is Hell Pt1’ are out Monday & I am off to see Thea Gilmore at Scala on Tuesday.

 Be Lucky,
Pete
